Travis, Roger E. of Hingham March 24, 2007.The beloved husband of Judith (Bartlett) Travis of Hingham. Loving father of Jill Alane Gilbert of Hanover and Amy Lynn Ross of Weymouth. Devoted grandfather of Kelsey Lee, Nicole Elise and Michelle Terese Gilbert all of Hanover and Travis Arthur and Jackie Ann Ross both of Weymouth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, Friday at 9 AM. Funeral mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4- 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roger may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 20 Walnut St., Wellesley, MA 02481. Roger was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Brooklyn Tech High School. After graduation he attended M.I.T. and received his B.S. and then two master degrees, one in business the other in engineering. Roger then received his PHD from M.I.T . His first job was his own medical supply company where he was the president and founder of the company called ” MEDI”. His next venture was in the real estate market where he purchased various properties on Cape Cod and Florida. Roger purchased a restaurant called Steamers in Hyannis which he operated for about 15 years closing in 2003. He then worked as a business consultant. Roger was truly an avid sports fan and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to Celtics and Red Sox games. Mr. Travis was a 45 year member at the Plymouth Country Club holding the postion of president twice. He loved the game of golf and was a dedicated player. He served on the board of directors for the Blue Hill Observatory and on the board at Advanced Magnetics Inc. in Cambridge. Roger also held the title of President of SBANE ( Small Business Assoc. of New England). He received a Presidential appointment from President Carter to the United States Metric Board on March 24, 1978. With all his accomplishments his family remembers him as a devoted husband and loving father who adored his grandchildren. He was taken away too soon. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all.
