Robert Wayne Ciccolo Sr., Ret. Sgt. Boston PD, of Plymouth, formerly of Hingham, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham. He was 85.

He was known by both  “Chick” and “Bob” to his friends.  He was born in Boston on August 3, 1937, and was the son of the late Angelo M. and Ina (Johnston) Ciccolo. He was raised in Dorchester, attended local schools and graduated from Boston Trade High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on March 7, 1956. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged on November 13, 1959. Following his honorable discharge, he joined the Boston Police Department. A hard working, dedicated Sergeant he retired in 1997 after 36 years of service to the City of Boston. He was proud to be a Boston Police Officer, it was his identity and life passion to serve and protect.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed traveling, scenic car rides, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was curious and inquisitive on how everything worked. He was quick to improvise and find solutions to challenging problems and to share his experience to help others. He loved dining out, a good joke and sharing a laugh with family and friends. Bob was strong-willed, supportive, and helpful.  His life lessons and example are his legacy that continue through his family and friends. Bob will be missed by all the lives he touched.

He was the beloved husband of Joyce Elliott (Richardson) Ciccolo. The two married on April 15, 1963, in St. Brendan’s Church in Dorchester. Together the two shared 60 years of loving marriage. He was the devoted father of Robert W. Ciccolo Jr., BPD Superintendent and his wife Dale of Needham, Retired PO Daniel E. Ciccolo and his wife Anne Marie of Weymouth, and Sarah C. Asnes and her husband Geoffrey of Kingston. He was the loving grandfather of Alexander R. Ciccolo of Adams, Matthew D. Asnes of  Kingston, and Nicolas W. Asnes of Kingston. He was the dear brother of Ret. BPD Captain John “Jack” Ciccolo and his wife Joan of Weymouth, the late Marie Griffin, and the late William Ciccolo, Colonel U.S. Army.
