McCarthy, Robert T. of East Greenwich RI, formerly Quincy MA, died December 18, 2023.

Bob’s family and his faith were the center of his life. He was a longtime parishioner and usher at Sacred Heart Parish in Quincy and St. Gregory’s Parish in Warwick RI.  He was also an active volunteer in many Catholic charities throughout his life including serving as member of the Knights of Columbus in Quincy. Bob was a well-read man with a particular love for history which he cultivated with his family through trips to museums and traveling to historical sites.  Bob was also an avid lifelong sports fan, in particular baseball and his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was a proud Army veteran and worked as a Safety Coordinator for the MBTA for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 76. Bob was a gentle, caring, selfless, and dependable man who maintained an optimistic worldview and always looked for the good in people. He would make friends easily with everyone he met representing friendships from all walks of life.  To know Bob was to love him and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Son of the late James F. and Mary Ellen (O’Rourke) McCarthy. Devoted husband of the late Bridget Mary (Brett) McCarthy. Loving father of Maryellen McCarthy of Quincy MA, Michael B. McCarthy and his wife Elizabeth of Dorchester MA, and the late Sean F. McCarthy. Cherished papa of Bridget Lenehan. Loving brother of the late Francis J. “Frank” McCarthy. Also survived by the Fain and McCarthy families in East Greenwich, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A funeral home service will be Saturday at 10 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston. In memory of Bob’s late son Sean, donations can be made to the Gavin Foundation Development Department, 675 East 4th St. PO Box E-15, South Boston, MA 02127.
