Robert P. Abbott, Sr.

Abbott, Robert P. of Hingham, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Barbara Simmons Abbott of Hingham, formerly of Mission Hill. Loving father of Robert P. Jr. and his wife Bernadette of Milton, David L. of Walpole and his close friend Kimberly MacDonald, Sean M. and his wife Wendy of Westwood, NJ, and Matthew T. and his wife Sara of Hingham. Son of the late Herbert and Estelle Abbott, brother of George Abbott, Margaret Guiod, Nancy McGovern, and the late Barbara Tarantino, Jane Alberti, Charles, and Paul Abbott. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Michaela, Andrew, Owen, Kathryn, Dylan, Emily, Connor, Samuel, Benjamin, John, and Charles. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers for over twenty years, with stops in Hawaii, Germany, Korea and Italy. He was a regular guy with a great sense of adventure and humor, a huge heart, and beyond all else very proud of his wife, children, and his twelve grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. At 9:15 AM on Tuesday, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home prior to the Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial will take place in Hingham Cemetery with military honors. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Mission Church Restoration Fund, 1545 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02120-2996.
