Robert N. Snyder

Robert N. Snyder of Braintree, died peacefully on May 26, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 74 after a lengthy illness.

Son of the late C. Robert and Mary Snyder of Braintree, he was raised in the town of Braintree and was a 1956 graduate of Braintree High School. After graduation he went to work for Raytheon Co. and retired 44 years later as a Project Manager/Facilities Engineer from Lexington in 2000. In 1956 Bob joined the Army National Guard, 1058 Battalion in Hingham, MA and was honorably discharged in 1964. He also worked part-time for his Uncle Harry throughout the fifties and beyond at Snyder Car Wash in Wollaston. During his life he was a member of the Plant Engineering Council of Massachusetts, Past President of Adams Heights Men’s Club in Quincy, Member of the Braintree Lodge of Elks #2622, former Town Meeting Member, Past President of East Braintree Little League as well as manager and coach of several teams for many years. He belonged to many different bowling leagues over the years and enjoyed playing pool with all his coffee buddies.

As a child he was introduced to stock car and midget car racing at Norwood Arena and he followed his favorites on a regular basis until the track closed. He developed a passion for Nascar racing and for many years would visit race tracks throughout New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Florida – the most exciting was having a tour of the Daytona Speedway. He enjoyed traveling with his wife all over New England especially to beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee where they vacationed every year at one of his favorite spots Proctor’s Lakehouse Cottages and boating both on the lake and “On Golden Pond.” They traveled to Bermuda, Canada, New York, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida (for many Braintree High School reunions and Disney World) and cruises on the Caribbean.

He lived for his family and is survived by his wife of 55 years and high school sweetheart Judith (Goodwin) Snyder; his devoted children Pamela Thomas and her husband Floyd of Avon, Robert of Framingham, Patricia Burke and her husband Joseph of Hanson, and Richard Snyder and his wife Patricia of Abington. Loving and proud grandfather of Matthew Thomas (Sara Lansing) of Kingston; Stephanie Thomas (Jeff Kelsey) of Hanson; Ashley O’Dell and her husband Andrew of Whitman; Victoria and Zachary Burke of Hanson and Jake Snyder of Abington; great-grandfather (“Big Gramp”) of Matthew and Nicole Thomas and Natalie O’Dell. Bob is survived by his loving sisters Marylou Sandry of Abington, Lorraine Kordis of Braintree and was pre-deceased by his brother Gary of Abington.
