Robert John McCourt Jr.

Robert John “Bob” McCourt Jr. (72) passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 4, 2025. Following a stroke on December 28, 2024, Bob fought a courageous battle both physically and mentally to spend a bit more time with his family. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Debra Jordan McCourt, and his four loving children and their spouses, Melissa and Patrick Maguire of Scituate, Michelle and Gary McGovern of Weymouth, Allison and Kyle Capaldo of Hingham, and Jack and Monica McCourt of South Boston. Bob is also survived by his six grandchildren, who were the source of so much pride and joy over the past decade, Sean and James Maguire, Julia and Madison McGovern, Trevor and Kenzie Capaldo.

Bob was born in Newton, MA, on November 2, 1952, to Robert John, Sr., and Mary Virgina McCourt. The eldest of seven brothers, Bob was known for his vibrant storytelling and sense of humor, sharing countless cherished memories with family and friends and always bringing laughter to those around him. Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Paul and Peter, Bob is survived by his brothers Gerard and wife Mary of Milton, Gregory of Chestnut Hill, Christopher of Englewood, FL, and Brian and Jennifer of South Boston. Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, class of 1971, Bob went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Salem State University. Bob and his brother, Peter, took over their father’s company, B&H Equipment Corporation, until they sold the company after a successful 20 years. Bob was then able to pursue his true passion of commercial real estate until his retirement. An avid skier, Bob spent his winters on the slopes at his Uncle Mo’s chalet in Mittersill. Summers were spent at his family’s home in Harwich Port, Cape Cod, where he made lifelong friends parking cars at Thompson’s Clam Bar. It was in Harwich Port where Bob met the love of his life, Deb. Bob and Deb built a beautiful life off the strongest foundation of love, settling down and raising their children in Hingham.

Bob had a love of Boston sports, especially the New England Patriots, a love almost as strong as his “gift for gab.” He had a natural ability to make friends with everyone he met, oftentimes picking up every conversation exactly where it left off, no matter how much time had passed. Bob and Deb spent the last 11 years in Cohasset, where he most enjoyed tending to his yard, taking trips to Sandy Beach, and making memories with his grandchildren. Bob will be deeply missed by every life he impacted.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in Hingham Cemetery, Hingham.
