ROBERT LINNA HEDLUND Age 79 of Quincy passed peacefully March 25, 2018 after a long illness.

Son of the late John A. Hedlund and the late Anna S. Hedlund of Quincy.  Beloved husband of Kathleen (Barrett) Hedlund who were married for 36 happy years.  Also survived by his son, Mayor Robert L. Hedlund of Weymouth, daughter, Heather A. Hedlund of Hingham, Granddaughter, Julia E. Hedlund of Hingham, Grandson, John L. M. Hedlund and John’s mother Eva Montibello of Haverill, his Mother –in-law, Anna M. Barrett of Weymouth, brother and sister-in-law, William and Stephanie Barrett of Bridgewater, brother-in-law, Daniel Barrett of FL, Sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Larry Trubia of Hull and many beloved nieces, nephews,  cousins and also his loving kitty, “Sophie”.

Bob was a graduate of Quincy High School class of 1955 and very proud that he played football in those high school years.  He was named “Lineman of the Week” for the whole South Shore Thanksgiving Day game of 1954.  He attend University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves as an MP for six years.  His career included titles Treasurer, VP and President of Hedlund Motors in Quincy, a heavy equipment and truck repair business he co-owned with his father.  Bob retired from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority where he worked as an Operator and Foreman.

Bob was involved in many organizations including Faith Lutheran Church where he served on their Executive Board.  He was a member over fifty years of Rural Lodge AF & AM, Past President of the Finnish Masonic 357 Club, Life member of South Shore Yacht club in Weymouth where he served as Trustee on the Board, member of Massachusetts Bay Yacht Clubs Association and he was a proud card-carrying member of The Boston Braves Historical Society. Also an associate member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks #943. He was an avid sports fan of all Boston teams.  Bob loved boating around Boston Harbor and the islands.  Loved to travel by plane, train and went on many cruises.  He especially loved the time he spent with his Grandson and treasured his “special hugs”.

He was a sweet, kind gentle man and will be lovingly remembered and very missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 9-11 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY followed by a funeral home service at 11 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Quincy Lodge of Elks #943 Scholarship Fund, Quincy, MA 02169.
