Robert Laing

Laing, Robert, a lifelong resident of Quincy, December 22, 2008. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (Potts) Laing. Devoted father of Lawrence Laing and his wife Lisa of Bridgewater and his daughter Nancy Joyce and her husband Richard of Quincy. Loving grandfather of Benjamin Laing of Bridgewater, Andrew Joyce of VA and Matthew Joyce of So. Boston. Great grandfather of Cameron Joyce of VA. Dear friend and longtime companion of Anne Donovan of Quincy. Robert was a graduate of Boston University with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He taught English, Aeronautics, and Industrial Arts at North Quincy High School for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1985. He enjoyed volunteering as a driver for the American Cancer Society’s “Road to Recovery” program. Robert was the manager of Cunningham Park in Milton for many summers and then permanently, after retiring from teaching. He was the Past President of Quincy Teachers Assoc. Robert was the N.Q.H.S Hockey Coach for 18 years and was also inducted into the N.Q.H.S Football Hall of Fame, in recognition of his many years of service as Faculty Manager. A proud WWII Veteran, Robert served as a Staff Sergeant in the 152nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 43rd Infantry Division in the Philippines from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, Monday at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 PM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Mr. Laing may be made to New England Baptist Hospital, 125 Parker Hill Ave., Boston, MA 02120.
