Robert L. Foley

Foley, Robert L. of Quincy, Massachusetts passed on into the loving arms of God on October 31. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Ridge) Foley and loving son of the late Frank Foley and Mary (Regan) Foley. Loving father of Mary Torraco and her husband Bob of Braintree, Barbara Watkins of Hingham, Judy Boyle and her husband Artie of Hingham, Patty Valente and her husband Chris of Hanover, William “Billy” Foley and his wife Ginger of Norwell, Rita Gill and her husband Kevin of Hingham, Kathy Laura and her husband Jack of Norwell and the late Bobby Foley. Brother of Irene Fagan of Weymouth and the late Frank Foley. Grandfather of 33 grandchildren. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Foley’s life centered around his family. He had an everlasting devotion to his wife, Mary, who died many years ago. His passion was baseball. Mr. Foley coached hundreds of children in the Quincy Youth Baseball League for 47 years. He was also instrumental in bringing the Babe Ruth World Series to Quincy. He taught children how to play correctly and more importantly respect the game. In the end, he taught these children just as much about life, as he did baseball. It wasn’t always about winning but improving yourself as a player each and every day. Mr. Foley, known to many as “Baseball Bob,” made a lasting impact on generations of his players, their siblings and families. Bob’s faith was a focal point of his life. He was an usher for over 30 years at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, member of St. Paul’s Thursday Night Prayer Group, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Quincy. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Electrical engineering. He worked at Boston Edison for 45 years and was the business agent for Local 369. Bob’s life revolved around his faith, family and friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Tuesday, 3 – 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea St., Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to Friends of the Unborn, PO Box 692246, Quincy MA 02169.
