Robert K. Ryan, beloved son of the late Margaret A. and James G. Ryan, died October 17, 2009 at Quincy Medical Center. He was 67. Mr. Ryan was a retired Project Manager in Information Technology at Children’s Hospital and Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation in Boston. A theoretical mathematics graduate of Northeastern University, he did his graduate work in Computer Sciences at Boston University and in Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A Professional Member of the American Meteorology Society for many years, Mr. Ryan was awarded the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Excellence in Weathercasting. He held positions as Chief Meteorologist at several radio stations in RI and MA. As a journalist, Mr. Ryan interviewed the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. for ABC News during Dr. King’s march in Boston in 1965. Mr. Ryan leaves a sister Mary Minyard of Clovis, NM, a brother Thomas J. Ryan of Reading, cousins Alice Lannigan of Hyannis and Patricia Dolan of Weymouth plus a host of nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Gaston of Billerica and James A. Ryan of Quincy. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday from 4 – 8 pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 am on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy at 10 am. Interment will be at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Mr. Ryan wants to be remembered as a good son.
