Robert J. “Bob” Quinn, 88, died peacefully on February 4, 2015.

Bob was a retired Senior Vice President of South Shore Bank in Quincy.  He was a 1944 graduate of Quincy High School.   In his youth, he was state doubles tennis champion along with Richard Maloney, his doubles partner.  

Bob attended the King’s Point Academy, serving as a Merchant Marine in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II.  He later served during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1953.

After his WWII service, he graduated from Boston College in 1951 with a B.S.B.A in Accounting.  The same year, he married the former Jean Donovan of Randolph, MA.

Bob was well-known and highly regarded in the banking industry on the South Shore and beyond.  He was a graduate of the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University in New Jersey.  He began his banking career at the Randolph Trust Company in Randolph, MA.  He continued after the bank merged with the South Shore National Bank, working in a variety of capacities completing his career as Senior Vice President.  After retirement, he served in area banks as as an executive consultant.

During his illustrious career, Bob was a tireless contributor to the community he served.  He was a past president of the Archbishop Williams High School Men’s Association, the Quincy Rotary Club, and the Quincy Neighborhood Club.  He  taught religious education and was Chairman of the first Parish Pastoral Council at St. Joseph ‘s Church in Holbrook, MA, where he was a long-time resident.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Cardinal Cushing School in Hanover, MA  and the American Red Cross of Massachusetts.

For his volunteer efforts, Bob was awarded the Forrest I. Neal Award for Volunteerism by the South Shore Chamber of Commerce in 1992.  He received the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award for service from the Quincy Rotary Club.  

Bob was an avid and skilled golfer.  He was a long-time member of the Hatherly Country Club in Scituate, MA, Dennis Pines Golf Course in Dennis, MA, and Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, FL where he held bragging rights to a hole-in-one in February, 2006.  He was the proud champion of numerous club tournaments.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Jean M. (Donovan). Loving father of Mary Q. Gallagher and her husband James of Hanover, and  children, Andrew (daughter-in-law, Suzanne), Peter, Emily (son-in-law, Joel) and Grace, R. Michael Quinn and his wife, Mary of Bedford, NH and children, Amy (son-in-law, Abdoulaye), David, Julianne, and Daniel, and Richard D. Quinn of Hanover and his children, Patrick and Jennifer. Brother of Joan Jones of Brunswick, ME, Paul Quinn of Omaha, NB, and the late Rev. J. Richard Quinn. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cardinal Cushing Center, 405 Washington Street, Hanover, MA 02336, American Red Cross, 170 Forbes Road, Braintree, MA 02184, or to Catholic Relief Services, 50 F. Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001.
