Robert J. Oliver

Robert J. “Bob” Oliver, of Hingham, formerly of Belmont and Hull, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness surrounded by his family, July 6, 2016.  

Bob was born July 21, 1936 to the late Anthony & Mabel (Driscoll) Oliver of Belmont.  Beloved husband of Carol Anne (Haley) Oliver of Hingham.  Loving father of James Robert Oliver and his wife Diana of Holliston, Patricia Ann Shaffer and her husband David of Acton, Joseph Anthony Oliver and his partner Kate of Delray, FL.  Bob is survived by his sister, Barbara Messuri and her husband Peter of Arlington, and predeceased by his older brother, William A. Oliver of Lexington.  He is lovingly survived by  his grandchildren, Matthew, Cali, Samantha, Sergi, Katherine and Michael and many loving nieces and nephews.

Bob was a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1954. Like his father and brother, he was a proud graduate of Boston College, Class of 1972.  From 1955 – 1992, Bob was a long term employee of the New England Telephone Company. As a life long boating enthusiastic,  he was a Hull lobsterman in the 50’s and 60’s.  He was a the past member of the Watertown Yacht from 1972 – 1995. He joined the Charlesgate Yacht Club in 1992 and was named Commodore in 1999 as well as Past member of the Commodore Club of America and a Delegate to the Mass Boating & Yacht Club Association.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10AM.

At a later date, Bob’s ashes will be scattered by his family over Seals Ledge on Crescent Beach in Hull.
