Robert J. Donahue

Robert J. Donahue (Bob) of Weymouth, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Bob was born to Joseph and Margaret (Peg) Donahue on February 3, 1930 in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Bob was raised in Somerville where he attended Somerville High School. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and spent two years with the 2nd Air Wing, Dayton Ohio achieving the rank of Sergeant. After an honorable discharge, Bob enjoyed traveling and leisure until he ultimately met and married the love of his life Patty Brown in 1964, relocating with her to Weymouth to start their family. 

Bob worked as a longshoreman on the docks of Boston before joining Local 534 Cement Masons/Plasterers union.  Bob worked as a cement mason for thirty years before he retired. He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Jerome’s Parish of North Weymouth. Bob was a self-taught jack of all trades and could always be counted on to help out his children whenever his home improvement skills were needed.  Bob’s retirement years were spent devouring books, keeping in close contact with his family and friends, spoiling his kids and grandchildren and attending countless soccer, hockey and baseball games. 

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia of fifty-eight years. He is survived by his brothers Donald of Amherst, NY and Stephen of Hanover, MA. He was the loving father of Christopher Donahue and wife Lisa of Weymouth, David Donahue and wife Tanya of Marshfield, and Neil Donahue and wife Carolyn of Weymouth. Bob was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Kate, Connor, Bailey, Maggie, Claire, Jack, Julia and Ryan. He is also survived by his devoted dear friends and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob will be remembered for his positivity, generosity, handyman skills, kindness and his unwavering love and devotion to his family. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday July 19th  4:00 – 7:00 PM at the McDonald-Keohane Funeral Home at 40 Sea Street, North Weymouth, Mass.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne on Thursday at 1:30 PM. In loving memory of Bob, please consider a donation in his name to the St. Jerome’s Parish North Weymouth Mass.
