Robert J. “Bob” Cavicchi, age 76, resident of Hingham, formerly of Walpole and Reading, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at South Shore Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Susan C. Cavicchi, to whom he was wed on July 3, 1965.
Bob was born on June 18, 1942, and was the loving son of the late Albert and Angelina Cavicchi. He grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, and graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. At BU, he was a member of ROTC and Pershing Rifles. During the Vietnam War, he proudly served as an officer in the United States Army from 1964 and was honorably discharged from duty on June 17, 1970. He worked for over 30 years at the Boston Gas company, serving in a variety of managerial roles, from customer service management to vice president. He rarely missed a day of work.
Bob enjoyed going out with friends for dinner and then attending community theater productions. Otherwise, he could often be found “puttering” around the house on various projects and frequently helped his children as they set up their own homes. Bob loved spending time with his family and was a regular spectator at his children’s and grandchildren’s various activities, including sports, plays, and concerts. After retirement, he enjoyed life at Linden Ponds, as well as participating in the programming at Active Day Senior Care, both in Hingham.
In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-four years, he is survived by his devoted children: Daniel Cavicchi and his wife Lynn of Mansfield, Massachusetts; Timothy Cavicchi and his wife Robin of Mansfield, Massachusetts; and Kevin Cavicchi and his wife Kristin of Wadsworth, Ohio. He was the dear brother of Lawrence Cavicchi and his wife, Judy, and Paul Cavicchi and his wife, Vicki. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Noah, Jacob, Isabella, Samuel, Louisa, Kyra, and Owen.
A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held on Friday, March 1, at Linden Ponds Performing Arts Center (PAC), Derby Clubhouse, 300 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA. The service will be from 1 to 2 pm, followed by light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bob’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association – MA/NH Office, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 (www.alz.org).
