Robert F. Dagley

Robert F. Dagley of Weymouth, passed away on March 16 at the age of 83.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bob was born and grew up in Braintree. He was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he did his co-op at MIT. There he met many technological innovators and spent his career working for entrepreneurial companies.

A devoted Christian and family man, he spent many years in leadership roles at the First Baptist Church of Weymouth, and later was one of the original members, deacons, and longtime treasurer of Community Baptist Church in Weymouth.

One of his most far-reaching contributions was the establishment of South Shore Christian Academy in Weymouth in 1994. One of the co-founders, his vision for the school guided it through its creation and early years. He served as chairman of the board for many years and was well known as the biggest fan of its sports teams on which a number of his grandchildren played.

A former all scholastic basketball player at Braintree High School where he captained the basketball team that played in the State Tournament, he went on to play at Northeastern University and for many years with the semi-pro Weymouth Alphas. He passed his love for the game on to his children and grandchildren, many who went on to play at the collegiate level.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phebe (Smith) Dagley; his brother, Gerald Dagley of Hingham; and his eight children and their spouses, Robert Dagley Jr. and Karin of Weymouth, Ronald Dagley and Valerie of Tyngsboro, Richard Dagley and Betty of Abington, Thomas Dagley and Ruth of Weymouth, Cynthia and John Atwater of Weymouth, Linda and Brendan Gorman of Ellington, CT, Leanne and Dana Edwards of Hanson, and Patricia and Timothy Vazquez of Weymouth. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
