Robert E. Abbott

Retired Hull firefighter Robert E. Abbott died April 4, after a short illness. He was 71.

Bob served with honor in the U.S. Marines Corps from 1961-1965. He worked for the Hull Police Department, then transferred to the Hull Fire Department. Serving as a firefighter for the town he loved was more than a job, it was his calling until the day he retired.  Bob was a man who adored people, and they in turn loved him. He was a man of many talents who freely shared them with anyone in need. A compassionate man, he was always someone people would turn to for advice, guidance, and wise counsel. He was known for his daily walks to the beach with a hot cup of coffee in hand.  He and his wife Geri traveled widely and befriended people all over the world; he just had that special way of becoming fast friends. He will be remembered for his playful manner, larger than life personality, unselfish nature, and his wide open heart.

Bob was the head of a close-knit family who meant the world to him. The beloved husband of Geraldine (Oliver) Abbott of Hull; he was the loving father of Jennifer Clark and her husband, Craig, of Stoughton, Geri Reilly and her spouse, Louise Lovallo, of Hull, Cathie Jennings and her husband, George, of TX, Kim Curley and her husband, Terry, of Duxbury, and Sean Reilly of Hull. Loving brother of Gerri Howe of NY, Corrine Abbott Mimikos of FL, and Marie Abbott of NY; he will always be the cherished “Bippy” of grandchildren Jessica, Sean, Keri, Cavin, Baylee, Brady, Caleigh, Sean Jr., and great granddaughter Faith.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday from 3-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Cremation will follow.
