West, Robert Dunlop

Robert, 83, of Weymouth, passed away on February 4, 2023.  Robert was born in Boston to the late Robert G. and Florence A. West. He was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Boston College and Harvard University. Robert was an educator in the Weymouth Public Schools for 42 years, holding the positions of teacher, guidance counselor, Director of Guidance, Assistant Superintendent, and ultimately served as Superintendent for the last decade of his career. Robert’s greatest pride and joy was his beautiful family and his faith. He was married to his sweetheart, Kathleen, for over 58 years and together they raised 4 children in Weymouth. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren, and he was their biggest cheerleader. Robert was an avid sports fan and was dedicated to the BC Eagles and fervently supported any local team on which his grandchildren played.

Devoted husband to Kathleen (Sinnott) West of Weymouth. Loving father of Kathleen E. Vergona and her husband, Michael of Boca Raton, FL, Robert J. West and his wife Linda of Weymouth, Michael P. West and his wife Jidapha of Weymouth, and Kristen M. West and her husband Douglas Schreiber of Norwell. Proud and loving “Blanky” to Colleen, Robbie, Kaleigh, Mary, Jane and Caroline. Loving brother to the late Anne C. (West) Rogers and her husband Wilson D. Rogers, Jr. of Weymouth, and to the late Mary West of Weymouth. Proud uncle of many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name may be made to the Weymouth Rotary Scholarship Foundation, 775 Pleasant Street, Suite 5, Weymouth, MA 02189.
