Beloved husband of Mary (McNamara) Dever of Hingham. Loving father of Robert C. Dever, Jr. of Canton, Maryellen Dever of Hingham, Jane Barry and her husband John of Hanover, Susan Marriner and her husband William of Hanover, Peter Dever and his wife Monique of Carrboro, NC, Paula Hill and her husband Gregory of Concord, Timothy Dever and his wife Amanda of Highlands Ranch, CO, Terrence Dever and his wife Andrea of Rockland. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Bob was raised in the Neponset section of Dorchester, and was a resident of Hingham since 1955. A graduate of Mission High School, he received a BA degree from the University of Notre Dame, his M.Ed. from Suffolk University, and was a Doctoral Candidate at the Harvard University School of Education. He was a proud US Navy Veteran of World War II, serving at the D-Day Invasion at Normandy.  Bob retired in 1988 following a 36 year career as an Educator in the Boston Public Schools. He began his career as a 4th grade teacher, and served as a Middle School teacher of English, Latin, and Mathematics. He served as Assistant Principal at the Martin Luther King Middle School, before becoming Assistant Director of Staff Development. He was also a teacher at Boston State Teachers College for many years.  Bob’s life revolved around his loving wife and family, and his faith. He was his children’s first and most constant teacher, a steady source of assistance during their school years, whether it was helping them with their homework, giving them extra lessons to advance the talents he saw in them, or spending endless late nights typing term papers for BC High, Notre Dame Academy, Hingham High School, or Xaverian Brothers High School. He made sure his children knew their faith and their baseball. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and his faith was finally rewarded twice.  He was an active member of St. Paul’s Parish, where he served as a lector for many years. He was a member of the PTO of St. Paul’s School, where he chaired a committee to retain the Sisters of St. Joseph as teachers in the school.
