Robert W. Barnes, born on May 12, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on March 25, 2025.
After completing high school, Robert was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War era, where he served as a cook stationed in Buffalo, New York. This experience not only molded his character but also instilled in him a sense of camaraderie and discipline that he carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Robert enjoyed a fulfilling career as a forklift operator for International Paper until his retirement. Known as a good neighbor, Robert was a quiet and reserved individual who preferred the simple joys in life.
In his leisure time, Robert enjoyed playing golf, where he proudly achieved the remarkable feat of three holes in one during his golfing career. He also took pleasure in walking at Glen Echo Park, and was known to enjoy playing Pai Gow poker at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino—a game he had learned during his time in the Army. A devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, he held a special place in his heart for the team.
Robert was particularly fond of animals, especially dogs, and his gentle spirit resonated with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Robert W. Barnes will be remembered as a kind-hearted soul, who lived with sincerity and integrity.
Robert is survived by his cherished nephews Robert F. Barnes of Hull and JosephP. Barnes of Weymouth. Cherished brother to the late Joseph and Mary Barnes of Weymouth. He is predeceased in life by his parents Patrick and Mary Barnes,
A graveside service will take place on April 1, 2025, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, at 10:45 AM.
