Foley, Robert B. age 88 of Quincy, died at home December 15, 2009 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Marian (Henebury) Foley. Loving father of Paula Renzi and her husband Joseph of Quincy, Robert B. Foley, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Canton and Patrick “P.J.” Foley and his wife Julie of Quincy. Devoted brother of Evelyn McDonough of Braintree and Edna McLeod of Weymouth and the late Dorothy Driscoll, William and Thomas Foley. Devoted grandfather of Jay, Lisa, Timothy and Patrick Renzi, Robert B. Foley, III, Alana Dale and her husband Mike of Medford. Mr. Foley was a proud Navy Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He retired in 1984 as a real estate operations manager from New England Telephone Company after 38 years. Bob was active in Baker Beach Association in Quincy, a member of the Town River Yacht Club and former Commodore at Gulf Point Yacht Club. He was a member of the Commodore Club of America and past Commander of Dorchester V.F.W. Post. He enjoyed wood working and made nautical art which was shown in local boat shows. For many years Bob served on the Board of Managers for Quincy Cemeteries and also on the Planning Board of Quincy. He was very passionate about politics in Quincy. As one on the founding members of St. Boniface Church, he was responsible for the carnivals the church ran and was asked to participate in the mortgage burning ceremony. After the heroic effort of diving through the ice in Bedford back in 1948 and saving the life of a young boy, Mr. Foley was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Honor and the United States Life Medal. New England Telephone Company also awarded him the Vail Medal as an honor of courage. A devoted family man Bob will be remembered as a thoughtful, quiet man with great insight. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home, Saturday at 9:15AM prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Saturday at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to St. Boniface Haiti Foundation, 400 North Main St., Randolph, MA 02368.
