Robert A. Flannery

Robert A. (Red) Flannery, 72, of Squantum (Quincy), MA, entered into eternal life on March 28th, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Red was born and raised in “God’s Country”, South Boston, MA to the late James O. and Marion A. Flannery. He was a beloved husband to Carol (Dalton) Flannery for 46 years; dedicated and loving father to Robert D. Flannery of California, Laura G. O’Donnell and husband Daniel of Hyde Park and Denise C. Carbone and Gregory of Milton; cherished grandfather of Daniel and Brendan O’Donnell of Hyde Park and Matthew, Christopher, Anthony and Brian of Milton; devoted brother of Dorothy Flannery Burke of California, the late James O, John (“Tubby”) and Paul A. Flannery; and proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Red was a retired Boston Police Patrolman. He found joy in many things but especially in golf, hockey, yard work, and talking with just about everyone he met.  He loved to go for long walks and appreciated beautiful sunsets.  Above all, Red enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  Red was a Friend of Bill W. and his strong faith in God supported his ability to live one day at a time and make every day count. The Flannery Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the family of his heart donor and the exceptional staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 am on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11 am. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert (Red) Flannery may be made to his grandson Daniel’s school, Nashoba Learning Group, 10 Oak Park Drive, Bedford, MA 01730.
