Flaherty, Rita P. (Crane) of Quincy, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2013.

Wife of the late Joseph P. Flaherty.  Loving mother of Brian M. Flaherty of Jacksonville, Fl, Patricia M. Patten and her husband, Bruce of Quincy, Neal O. Flaherty and his wife, Tricia, of Braintree, James C. Flaherty of Quincy, and Kathleen M. Chrisom of Hanover. Sister of the late Mary laBarge, Helen Moore, Margaret Pavesi and Katherine McAlea. Cherished grandmother of Lauren and Renee Patten, Jillian and Ryan Chrisom, and Megan Flaherty.

Born in Cambridge, she was a 1941 graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Cambridge where she was the President of her class, Valedictorian, and had the proud honor of crowning the Blessed Mother Mary at the May procession. She had worked for many years at Harvard University in the Chemistry Department.  After getting married to Joe and raising her family, she worked for many years at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Blood Bank as a Community Liason Officer. Rita had a passion for reading, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and summering in Humarock. A woman of faith, Rita enjoyed attending Mass on a regular basis as well as teaching CCD. She will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.  Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.  Memorial donations may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
