Rita G. (McNabb) Bestick, of Hingham, formerly of Weymouth and Hough’s Neck, died peacefully June 2, 2016, age 89.
Rita’s early career was as a fashion buyer, and she quickly rose to become the youngest female executive buyer for Jordan Marsh. She retained a keen interest in fashion and design her entire life. After raising her four children, she returned to work as a marketing executive for the Howard Johnson restaurant chain. She also spent many years as the office manager for Ferry Chiropractic in Weymouth. Rita enjoyed outdoor sports and was an enthusiastic golfer, tennis player and cross country skier. She also maintained an active intellectual life, with strong interests in current events, literature, music, theater and poetry. In turbulent times, she was often the calm center, and many family members and friends sought out her wise and compassionate counsel. She will be dearly missed.
Former wife of the late Irving Bestick. Devoted mother of Gregory Bestick and his wife Christine Tomasino of New York, Kurt Bestick of Weymouth, Leslie Bestick and her companion Ed Taylor of Hingham, and Scot Bestick and his wife Claudia Prince of Colorado. Cherished grandmother of Andrew, Nora and Alexandra. Loving sister of Janet DeLang of Weymouth and eight deceased siblings. Beloved aunt to a dozen nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday, July 16 from 1 to 5 at Barker Tavern, 21 Barker Road, Scituate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rita may be made to the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (www.biama.org) or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children (www.shrinershospitals.org/donate).
