Rita Defrancesco

Rita (Theroux) DeFrancesco, a longtime resident of Braintree, died at the AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Milton on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the age of 89.

Born in Montreal in 1933, Rita then moved to New York City with her beloved adoptive parents, Jeanette and Teddy Theroux, when she was one years old. She had a very happy childhood there- skating at Rockefeller Center, playing and horseback riding in Central Park, and people watching on Broadway. In August of 1951, she met her future husband, Frank. Their first date was to Nantasket Beach, where they enjoyed the rides and had supper. On May 18^th, 1952, her and Frank were married at St. Mary’s Church in West Quincy. They went back to New York City for their honeymoon before Frank was deployed for his service in the Navy. When he returned from the service, they started their family by having four wonderful sons. She enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint, visits from her sons, and making crafts for her family.

The beloved wife of the late Francis A. DeFrancesco, Rita was the mother of Steven DeFrancesco (Rae) of Abington, Francis DeFrancesco (Diana) of Braintree, William DeFrancesco (Molly) of Whitman and the late Michael DeFrancesco (Dolores) of Florida, and “Nana” to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday from 4 to 8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home in South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial services will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
