Porteus, Richard T., age 82, of Braintree, died November 26, 2011 at home. Beloved husband of Carolyn (Schumb) Porteus of Braintree. Devoted father of Richard Jr., of Braintree, Karen Kidder of Pembroke and Susan Nedelman of Brookline, NH. Loving grandfather of six grandchildren – George and Emma Porteus, Marissa and Jameson Kidder, and Sophia and Lucy Nedelman. Devoted uncle of Siobhan Wee and loving grand uncle of Thomas Wee. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Marie Galvin, of Chicago. A graduate of Fitchburg State Teachers College and Boston University, plus a year at the New England School of Art, Boston. Richard was also a Korean War veteran. He retired in 1991 after 35 years as an art teacher, 32 of them in Quincy, the last 10 at Quincy High. His talents were extensive and varied, such as oil painting, pen and ink, sketching, mosaics, jewelry, graphic design, interior design, woodcraft, murals, and especially cartooning. He has had cartoons published in newspapers, magazines, 10 children’s books, and 3 cartoon books. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton. Donations in Mr. Porteus’ memory made be made to New England Wildlife Center, 500 Columbian St., South Weymouth, MA 02190.
