Richard P. Doyle, a cherished family man, Army veteran, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, at the age of 83 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Born on October 10, 1941, in Boston, Richard’s life was one of commitment, love, and joy, which he shared generously with all who knew him. Richard’s journey began in the vibrant neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, where he was raised by his loving parents, George and Frances Doyle. He later moved to Braintree, where he established his own roots. Richard’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his country and community. Richard served in the Army during the Vietnam era. After his military service, he continued to protect and serve as a Boston Police officer until he retired with the rank of Sergeant. His commitment to service was further exemplified through his involvement with the Retired Boston Police Association, where he remained an active member.
The heart of Richard’s world was his family. He was a devoted husband, celebrating 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, MaryAnn (Tanzi) Doyle. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, creating a warm and welcoming home for their children, Lisa (Doyle) Fehan and her husband Rich of Plymouth, and Michael Doyle and his wife Krista of Weymouth. Richard’s role as Papa to his four grandchildren, Erin and Ayden Doyle of Weymouth, and Brenna and Kaylin Fehan of Plymouth, was one he cherished deeply. His love for his grandchildren was evident in the pride and joy he took in attending their sporting events, celebrating their milestones and being an integral part of their lives while capturing every moment on his camera. Richard’s family circle extended to his dear brother, Edward Doyle and his wife Ann of Jamaica Plain, and he was a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Virginia Greenwood, George Doyle Jr., and Carole McMahon, who all held special places in his heart.
Throughout his life, Richard’s interests included photography, spending summers in Old Orchard Beach Maine and taking scenic drives with his wife Mary by his side. He was a the biggest cheerleader at his grandchildren’s sporting events, always there to cheer them on and offer his support. His presence on the sidelines was a source of encouragement and a testament to his dedication as a grandfather. He watched his grandchildren grow up with their cousins, aunts and uncles in Maine as they created their own Doyle community within the campground they all spent their summers at. His love of photography started in his early days with the Boston Police Identification Unit. There he learned how much he enjoyed being behind the camera. His family was fortunate that he captured so many special moments. Richard leaves a legacy of film and photos behind for his family to enjoy and remember all the good times.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, January 27 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So.
