Richard P. “Dick” Brooks, Sr., a Quincy resident for over 50 years and formerly of Dorchester, passed away in peace on Wednesday, June 6, 2019, after a long battle to recover from injuries and illness he suffered in a car accident nine years ago.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and was the son of the late John Patrick and Josephine (Emery) Brooks. Dick attended local schools and graduated from Dorchester High School with the Class of 1958.
Richard worked at Honeywell as a Marketing Executive for 30 years. Later in life, he worked for Pennsylvania Steel Company at the Fore River Shipyard. He also worked as a Securitas Security Guard at State Street Bank for ten years, retiring at 70 years old. Richard always loved to work and it is something he missed very much after his car accident.
Richard enjoyed camping in his seasonal trailer in The Lakes Region of New Hampshire. While at his trailer, he loved fishing, golfing, sitting around the campfire, attending the Nascar Races, and Bikey Week in Laconia. Above all, Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren and his great grandson. His grandchildren, Lauren (“Buffy”), Michael (“Mikey”), Madeline (“Maddy”), and Luke (“Lukey”) were truly the light of his life.
He also loved to travel. He often talked about his trip to Bermuda and Niagara Falls with his beloved wife, his surprise trip to Ireland for his 60th birthday with his three children, trips to Canada and Lake Placid for his grandson’s hockey games and his many trips to Florida with his family and dear brothers Bobby and Jack.
Richard was also an avid life long sports fan, especially of The New England Patriots and The Boston Red Sox. He often told the story of being at The Famous 1975 Red Sox World Series Game and he loved any chance he got to go to Fenway Park.
Richard will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, heart of gold, genuine kindness, and unbelievable strength to overcome adversity. He was a true survivor and his strong unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Richards moto in life was “ Faith, Family and Friends”. He had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed The Rosary daily. His advice to friends and family would be “Say three Hail Mary’s and things will get better.”
Richard was the beloved husband of the late Diane (Dauphinee) Brooks, who died in 1989. Together they shared many years of loving marriage. He was the loving Father of Richard Brooks and his wife Tracey of North Quincy, Stephen Brooks and his partner Lina Moscone of Marlborough, Suzanne Mammone and her husband John of Marshfield. Richard was the cherished grandfather of Lauren & Michael Brooks of North Quincy and Madeline Mammone of Marshfield. He was the proud great grampa to Luke Brooks of North Quincy. Richard was the dear brother of his Irish twin, Robert Brooks of Weymouth and his late wife Lorelyn, Donna O’Neil and her partner Eliot Somers of FL, the late John P. Brooks Sr. and his late wife Lorraine, the late William E. Brooks Sr. and his surviving wife Donna of Cohasset, the late Joseph L. Brooks Sr. and his surviving wife Anita of Cohasset. He was the dear brother-in-law of the late Priscilla Dauphinee, Paula Genson and Edward O’Neil. Richard is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, June 11th 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 12th prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.
