Richard Paul “Rich” Lahar, of Quincy, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Boston Medical Center. He was 73.
Rich was born in Boston on April 6, 1951, and was the son of the late William and Rita (Donnelly) Lahar.
Rich was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather (Pa). He was an ever-present, active part of his children’s lives, creating memories and sharing in their joys. One of his greatest happinesses was spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and he treasured every moment with them.
Rich’s love extended to his mother, whom he lovingly cared for in her later years until her passing. His compassion and loyalty were unmatched, and he always put others first.
Rich was a devoted follower of all Boston sports teams. Whether it was watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, or Bruins, he was never far from the action. He could also be found on the sidelines cheering on his children at sporting events and was proud to submit write-ups to the local newspaper.
He enjoyed traveling, with his favorite destination being the beautiful shores of Destin, Florida. The ocean always called to him, and he found peace in fishing and being near the water. A precious memory for him was a recent trip for his grandchildren’s first visit to Disney World.
Rich was an avid reader and enjoyed movies, oldies music, and cooking for his family at weekly Sunday dinners. Rich loved playing cards, especially a competitive round of Hearts. He was quick with a movie quote or joke and known for his infectious humor and social nature.
Rich attended Stonehill College and received his MBA from Suffolk University. He spent over four decades working in the banking industry as a mortgage broker.
His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, sense of humor, and selflessness left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Rich will always be remembered for his love of family, his wit, and his kindness.
Rich was the beloved husband of Margaret (McIntyre) Lahar, with whom he shared 46 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Colleen McDonald and her husband Michael of Dedham, Patrick Lahar and his wife Sheila of Melrose, and Meghan Tierney and her husband Christopher of Quincy. Rich was the loving grandfather of Owen and Vivian McDonald of Dedham, Ronan and Kiera Lahar of Melrose, and Evelyn and William Tierney of Quincy. Rich was the dear brother of William D. Lahar and his late wife Eileen of New York. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, prior to the Funeral Mass at Divine Mercy Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
