Richard J. Heapes

A lifelong resident of Hingham, Richard Heapes passed away at the age of 89 with his beloved wife Joanne, of 27 years by his side.  He is predeceased by his parents Helen (Maiocchi) and Richard Heapes, and sister Mary (Heapes) Carlin.  Richard will forever be loved by his children; daughter Jeanne and her late husband Mickey Conneely, son John and his wife Susan Heapes, daughter Joanne and her husband Larry Fortier, son Ted and his wife Julie Heapes along with Joanne’s son Chris Freyermuth and daughter Catherine Armour.  Richard enjoyed his time with his grandchildren, Michael and Alice Conneely, Jessica and Jason Heapes, Hunter and Riley Richard Fortier and Alexander and Lilly Winstanley.  He was blessed to be called great grandpa by Hunter and Behr, children of Jason and his companion Laurisa Flannery before his passing.

In his youth, Richard was an avid Eagle Scout and continued to remain active in the Scouts for many years.  His passion for music defined his educational years, having studied piano and clarinet at the New England Conservatory of Music in his high school years, playing in the Hingham High School band, The Satuit Band and becoming one of the founding members of the Hingham Civic Orchestra in 1946.  He later majored in music at Boston University and proudly played for four years in the 215th Army Ground Force Marching Band.

Richard was a successful business owner, having owned four Submarine sandwich shops in Hingham, Abington and Middleboro.  He was also actively involved as a real estate broker both in local commercial real estate and in waterfront properties in New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Throughout his life, Richards main focus was always family, faith and friends.  He loved tennis, golfing, boating and board games and was always happiest enjoying these hobbies surrounded by the people he loved.  He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and time spent with his wife Joanne and their friends.  Family and friends alike will always remember the many laughs and memories made with Richard.

Richard was a lifelong parishioner of St Paul Church in Hingham and dedicated his life to his faith.

Richard will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
