Richard J. Campbell

Campbell, Richard J. (Dick), native of Quincy and most recently of Weymouth, passed away January 29, 2013 at the age of 75. 

Dick attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.  He also taught both political science and writing at the college level.  Dick was currently the senior associate for media and public affairs for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in Cambridge, where he worked for the last 18 years.  He developed and led the organization’s media-outreach program and served as its chief spokesperson, and was deeply committed to its mission of advancing human rights and social justice.  Earlier, Dick was an award-winning journalist for metropolitan-area newspapers in New Jersey and Massachusetts.  Dick was a loyal Boston sports fan and an avid runner.

 Dick is survived by sons Scott Campbell and his wife Marcie McNary of Upper Arlington, OH, and Craig Campbell and his wife Kelly Campbell of Tyngsboro, MA; nine grandchildren—Meaghan and Liam McNary Campbell of Upper Arlington, OH; Emily, Olivia, Sophia, and Ella Campbell of Tyngsboro, MA; and Matthew Campbell of Haverhill, MA, Candace Campbell of Lawrence, MA, and Keith Campbell of Wilmington, MA.  Dick is also survived by brothers Charles Campbell of Florida and Barry Campbell of California, three great-grandchildren, and two nieces.  Dick was predeceased by his son Keith Campbell and his parents Charles N. and Ann Green Campbell.

 Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10 AM in the McDonald Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.).  A funeral service and celebration of life will follow in the funeral home at 11 AM.  Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
