Richard Foy

Foy, Richard F. of Hanover,  81, passed away February 14, 2014  after a brief illness.  Dick was the beloved husband of Claire (Lotterhand) Foy for the past 56 years.

Born and raised in Quincy, MA,  Dick moved to Weymouth, MA to raise his family and subsequently retired to Hanover, MA.

The son of the late Robert E. Foy and Mary G (Ash) Foy, Dick  graduated from Boston College with a degree in finance in 1954. As a young man, Dick enjoyed sports and was inducted into the Quincy High School baseball Hall of Fame.  He also served our country in the  United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a finance officer. Dick co-owned and operated Foy’s Market  located in Quincy Square with his brother, Bob, for many years until it closed in the early 70’s. Dick continued his financial career with John Hancock for about 15 years , retiring to help his wife Claire manage her insurance agency. 

Dick, known as Fizza by close friends and family, was a member of the Cyril P Morrisette Post 295 serving as financial officer for many years, he was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion 294.  A huge fan of Boston College sports, Dick was a season ticket holder of many sports and attended events frequently.  He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children and grand-children’s athletic events remembered by many as an original “soccer dad“.

Dick was the loving father of Rick Foy and his wife, MJ, of Holbrook, MA; Ginny Sheppard and her husband, Bob, of Whitman, MA; Judy Archibald and her husband, David, of Marshfield, MA; Jeanne Foy and her husband, Bill Scarpelli, of Hanover, MA; and Jodi Foy of Weymouth, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alison, Lauren and Brian Sheppard, JJ, Josh and Remy Archibald and Matt and Joelle Scarpelli.  Dick also leaves his brother, Robert and his wife, Mildred of Quincy, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday February 18th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Quincy.  A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 9:15 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 227 Sea St. Quincy at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations be made to Children’s Hospital Boston, MA.
