Richard “Dick” Kiernan of Mashpee, MA passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022. He was 91.
Richard was born on June 11, 1931, in Braintree, MA, the eldest child of Thomas Edward and Beatrice Evelyn (Frazier) Kiernan. As a young man, he provided strength and support to his mother and sisters, later his country by joining the Navy. Richard and his wife Beverly married in 1956 and lived in Braintree, and later Tewksbury, where they raised three children supporting them in sports and instilling a love all things maritime.
Throughout his life, he found ways to connect with and support his communities. Beginning as a Press Operator, he rose to department Administrator in the Graphic Arts department at Raytheon Service Corporation.
Following his retirement, he and Beverly settled in Mashpee where he enjoyed Cape life with boating, fishing, and community service. His good nature and leadership were much admired in his roles as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister at Christ the King Parish where he was involved in fundraising efforts and received the “Good Guy” award. Anyone who knew him will remember his charm, his humor, and his willingness to help his friends and community.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly, their children Michael and his wife Nancy of Medellin, Colombia, David and his wife Marybeth of Mattapoisett, MA, and Christine Kiernan of Squantum, MA. He was a proud and loving Grampy to Kat Kiernan and her husband William Beecher of Brooklyn, NY, Kevin Kiernan of Alaska, Katelyn Kiernan of Wakefield, MA, Matthew Kiernan, and Patrick Kiernan of Mattapoisett, MA. He leaves his biggest fans, sisters Carol Kelley and Marylee Plitt who reside in Oregon, and 10 nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Thursday from 9-10 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital), followed by his Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
