Richard “Dick” Hilbert, a cherished member of the Weymouth community, passed away on May 12, 2024. He was 87.
Dick was a proud graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1956, and Newbury Junior College. For 37 years, he worked in the Underground Department at Boston Edison Company, and was a proud member of UWUA Local 369 AFL-CIO. His service in the Army was a testament to his patriotism and love for his country. Dick’s retirement in 2000 marked the end of an era for those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
An avid reader and Boston sports enthusiast, Dick was a dedicated New England Patriots fan. He often traveled to Boston Red Sox games out of state with his late wife, Anne, as a member of the BoSox Club. When his girls were young, he spent many of his summers camping and fishing up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Later, Dick’s passion for travel took him to Australia, New Zealand, continental Europe and on many trips to Ireland. He was very proud of his Irish heritage.
A long-time Friend of Bill W., Dick’s integrity, honesty, and thoughtfulness touched the lives of many. He was a beacon of support and an unwavering friend to those on a similar journey. His legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering support, and a very quick wit. He will be remembered as a generous soul who lived a life full of purpose and joy. Dick thoroughly enjoyed his life in recovery. His love for his hometown of Weymouth was evident to all who knew him. Dick’s memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Boston, Dick was the oldest child of the late Walter and Johanna (Conroy) Hilbert. Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Anne (Fitzpatrick) Hilbert of Weymouth. Loving father of Mary Anne Barry and her husband Michael of Braintree, Kathleen Danna of Weymouth and Stephanie Dwyer and her husband Michael of Weymouth. Devoted Papa to Brendan Danna, Maeve Danna, Sean Barry, Patrick Danna, Thomas Barry, Cecilia Dwyer, Grace Dwyer, Teddy Dwyer and Emmeline Dwyer. Also survived by many lifelong friends and extended family.
