Richard A. Mochen

Richard A. Mochen, 63, of Milton, MA, his family announces with great sadness his passing on July 22, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a 5 month battle with brain cancer.

Born in 1955 at Chelsea Naval Hospital, Richard was the fourth child of the late Daniel T. and Alice Duggan Mochen of Chatham, MA. After being raised with his five siblings in a Navy family, Richard settled in Milton, MA, where he loved his home and his family.

Rick attended the Philadelphia College of Art where he studied Industrial and Product Design, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial and Product Design. Rick spent summers fishing commercially out of Chatham, MA, using this income to pay for his education.

Rick worked as a freelance footwear designer for several large companies, including Converse, Puma,  Etonic, and Acushnet. Most recently he spent 17 years as part of the design team at FootJoy, helping to create many innovative designs in their golf shoe line, including the best-selling Project M golf shoe, and earning the Acushnet Distinguished Performance Award.

Richard is survived by Richard A. Mochen Jr. (Ashley) of Marstons Mills, MA., along with his longtime love Karen M. Folino of Quincy, MA.

Rick is also survived by his siblings: Kathryn A. Bowden of Harwich Port, MA, Thomas S. Mochen of Norridgewock, ME, Elizabeth M. Prescott  of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Denise G. Bafti (Bob) of Malden, MA, and Mary Ann O’Donnell  of Harwich, MA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children, and many cousins.

A man who had opinions and was not shy about delivering them, Rick was also a man who loved deeply and lived life to the fullest, traveling throughout Europe and Asia, celebrating new cultures and cuisines, making friends and always helping others along the way.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
