Richard A. King of Hingham, Massachusetts died Wednesday January 17, 2007. Dick was born June 27, 1950 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Libby, their three children: Kendra, Logan and Malin. He is preceded in death by his parents Terrence and Ruth. He is also survived by his two sisters; Kaye King and Mary Jane King and her husband Dale Coble all of Columbia, MO. He leaves many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Dick’s Life on Wednesday January 24, 2007 at 9:00 AM at Old Ship Church, First Parish Hingham, 90 Main Street, with a reception immediately following at Black Rock Country Club, 19 Club House Dr. in Hingham. The family is grateful for the loving support of friends and the community and requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Great Hill Charitable Trust, c/o Ed Goldfarb, 10 Black Rock Dr., Hingham, MA 02043. Dick was recognized as a community and business leader. He was involved extensively in companies dealing with technology and information services. Most recently he founded and managed Home Systems Design, a company designing and installing home automation and entertainment systems. Throughout his career he was involved with many organizations providing innovative technological services for the international telecommunications industry. In addition, Dick was very active in his community, especially his involvement with children’s sporting events. He coached the Hingham Youth Soccer League for a number of years and also used his talent with electronics to create multi-media images of those sporting events. He was a strong supporter of the soccer programs at Thayer Academy, Colby College, Galway Rovers and local leagues. Dick was also a patron of the arts, serving on the board of the Hingham Symphony. Dick’s hobbies included a strong interest in astronomy. He was instrumental in advancing the Astronomy program at Thayer Academy. He also took his family on several trips to remote parts of the world to view total Solar Eclipses, educating his family about the solar system and foreign cultures in the process. He cherished time spent with his family and greatly enjoyed the trips they took together and with other families. He attended Hendrix College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received advanced degrees from Emory University (M.S. in Library Science) and Syracuse University ( M.S. in Telecommunications). While attending Syracuse he met his wife Libby. After graduation from Syracuse he joined ESPN in a position responsible for network operations and satellite/telecommunication facilities. He also was President/COO of Global Access Telecommunication Services, an international satellite and fiber optic transmission services company before founding Home Systems Design. His warm sense of humor and caring approach will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
