Retired Col. Lorraine A. Rossi 81, formerly of Alexandria, VA. and Roslindale, MA. Died suddenly at her home in Hingham. Born in Boston she attended Boston Public Schools, earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater State College and taught Physical Education in Boston School System. In September 1952 she began her military career which resulted in twenty eight years of service. She was detailed to many areas and held assignments in places such as Ft.Lee, Ft. McClellan, Ft. Ord, The Pentagon, Japan, Alaska and served as Advisor to Vietnam Women’s Armed Force Corps in Saigon.She was a graduate of the Army War College Shippensburg State College where she received an MS in Counseling. Lorraine was awarded many career commendations. She retired in June 1980. In 1989 she moved to Hingham to care for her ailing mother and being a generous and caring woman she became active in many volunteer services in town, Meals on Wheels, the Senior Center, within her immediate neighborhood and Church Communities.She also served as a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Boston and was very active in the creation of the Women’s Army Corps Memorial and Museum. Lorraine loved to dance and participated in classes for tap dancing took part in the annual Cabaret. She loved Maine and visiting with her sister there where lobster was always on the menu. Survivors include a sister Jeanne M. Rossi and her partner Fidelis Taylor of Maine, many friends and relatives. Calling hours will be held at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home 21 Emerald St., Hingham on Wed., Aug.11 from 4-8p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Hingham on Thurs. Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
