Raymond V. Delaney

Raymond V. Delaney, longtime resident of Weymouth and recently Hingham and Jamestown, RI, passed on March 14, 2021, at the age of 95.

A hard working, devoted family patriarch, Ray was in the Army during World War II. He earned a Purple Heart serving in the European theater. While there, he had the honor of having a private audience and receiving communion from Pope Pius XII.

He was husband of Shirley, who passed in December of 2019, shortly after celebrating their 71st anniversary. She was the love of his life.

He was the devoted father of Bob Delaney and his wife, Cathy, of Abington, Deb McCormack and her husband, Jack, of Jamestown, RI, and Jayne Oldham and her husband, Ray, of Norton. He was a cherished grandfather to Kevin Delaney and Marlena, Stephen Delaney and Erin, Christopher Oldham and Danielle, Robert McCormack and Emily and Kate McCormack and Kevin. He also leaves four much-loved great grandchildren: Cassie, Gabi, Dominic and Max and numerous nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews across the country.

He spent much of his career at Andrews & Pierce Trucking Company as the shop foreman under the leadership of his beloved mentor, Ernest Pierce, until his retirement 1987.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Fran Grey and Mary Slavin and brother, Jack. He was happily reunited with his sister, Doris Halpin, who lived at Linden Ponds where he and Shirley lived for several years. Her support and companionship was a godsend.

Ray would feel us remiss if we didn’t mention his dedicated feline companion, Phoebe. No one could take care of Ray better than Phoebe. She was by his side til the end.

Ray was a kind, considerate man to anyone who had the privilege of calling him a friend, father, grandfather, brother or uncle. He will be sorely missed by anyone whose life he touched. He was passionate about American cars and never forgot any detail or memory from his life well lived.

Funeral and burial will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m.
