Phyllis M. Kitson

Phyllis M. (Campbell) Kitson of Hull died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family, on December 28, 2015 at the age of 73.

In 1959, at age 16, Ms. Kitson moved to Hull with her family. She was a member of the first class to graduate from Hull High School in 1960 and has called Hull her home ever since.

She worked for the Town of Hull in the Tax office and Treasurers offices from 1979 to 2004, when she retired as Assistant Treasurer.  After her retirement, she continued her service to the town working at Town Meetings and at the polls on election days. She also waitressed for many years at different restaurants in the surrounding towns.

She was a long-time member of V.F.W. Post 1787 Auxiliary, and also worked part-time as a server at the Hull Post.

She enjoyed traveling and her excursions include multiple trips to Las Vegas, California and Florida, as well as vacations in Bermuda and The Bahamas and, over the past 12 years, she traveled to Washington several times a year to visit her son.

She also enjoyed going to Foxwoods and Twin Rivers to play BINGO, and playing games on FaceBook with her friends.

She was strong and courageous in the face of adversity, and those traits were exemplified during her ultimately successful battle against lung cancer 22 years ago; 22 years that were a great gift to her family and friends.

Sadly, the effects of that disease took their toll on her physically, and she eventually succumbed to them, despite her valiant attempts to defeat them once more.

Predeceased by her partner of 23 years, Michael Bastarache, she was the beloved mother of Robert Kitson, Jr. of Washington, and Cheryl Grey and her husband, Greg, of Hull; devoted ‘Nana’ to Stacey Grey of Hull, Greg Grey, Jr. of Weymouth, Tyler Grey and Dylan Grey of Hull; loving sister of Everett Campbell and his partner,  Edie of South Carolina, John Campbell and his wife, Maureen of Middleboro, James Campbell and his wife, Sandy of Hull, Jay Campbell and his wife, Sandy of Whitman, Richard Campbell and his wife, Debbie of Mashpee, Kenneth Campbell of Weymouth, and Cindie Brennan and her husband, Paul of Cotuit; and loving aunt to 21 nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her many great-nieces and nephews and dozens of first and second cousins; one of whom, Patty Connors, she has always considered a surrogate sister and with whom she was in contact at least once daily since their teen years.

She was a very special lady who touched many hearts during her life; liked by all who met her and loved by those who were fortunate enough to know her, and she will be greatly missed by all.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A funeral home service will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to Wellspring, 814 Nantucket Ave, Hull, MA 02045 or the charity of your choice.
