Philip T. Arena

Philip T. Arena of Hingham died on Sept. 1, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer, he was 63. He was the beloved son of the late Charles A. Arena  and Patricia (Towle) Arena. Brother of Christopher Arena of Jeffersonville, VT, Rosamond Arena of Franklin, Nancy Grant of North Reading, Jane Gilmartin of Hingham and Charles A. Arena, Jr. of Natick.  Philip is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Phil lived life on his own terms and with a joy that was boundless and unambiguous. He had many passions; he loved bluegrass, sea shanties, folk music and was an accomplished banjo player. He absolutely loved to sing and knew the words to more songs than anyone.  He was an avid skier and often extended the season as far as he was able. He never missed an opportunity to ski. Phil graduated from Boston College in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree. He worked as a travel agent for American Express and later at Scituate Travel.  He loved to travel and enjoyed many excursions to Europe with his friends over the years. He always knew exactly where to stay, where to eat and where to have the best time.  Phil loved Boston sports teams and was usually the most enthusiastic person in the room during playoff season for the Celtics, Red Sox and especially the New England Patriots. He was a nature lover. His day was never complete without an outing to his favorite scenic places around south shore, from the sea to the woods of Wompatuck State Park and to Turkey Hill. He could name any bird by sight or by song. He was always ready to tell you exactly when the sun would rise and set on any given day.  Phil was a reader, a history buff and simply unbeatable at Scrabble.

If wealth were measured in friends, then Phil was a very, very rich man. Everyone who knew him loved him. He leaves us all with a million memories of laughter and good times.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday Sept. 9, 2022 from  9-11:30am in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
