Philip Godfrey Doherty of Naples, Fl and Rockport, ME died peacefully on September 19, 2016 at his home in Naples with his loving wife at his side. Philip was born in Lynn, MA to the late Edward P. and Marie(Calder)Doherty. He spent his earlier life in Lynn, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1955. He continued his education at Bentley College In Boston, MA. Philip enjoyed a successful sales career in employee benefits with several well-known insurance companies. His last position before retiring in 1994 was as New England Sales Manager for General American of St. Louis, MO. Brenda and he spent their retirement years between Naples and Rockport. Philip had two loves in his life;his wife of almost 48 years, Brenda Meade Doherty, and the game of golf. Philip was a true competitor. He loved the competition and the many friends he met while golfing. He was also a fine golfer and won many tournaments over the years in Massachusetts, Maine and Florida. He was a long time member of the Meadowbrook Golf Club in Reading, MA and the Samoset Golf Club in Rockport, ME. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Vineyards Country Club in Naples, FL. Philip was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Edward A. Doherty, as well as his in-laws, William and Margaret Meade and his sister-in-law, Kathleen A, Meade. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, of Naples, FL and Rockport,ME. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janet T. Doherty of Sun City Center, FL, his brother-in-law, W. Paul Meade of Naples. FL and Amherst, MA and his brother-in law and sister-in-law, Richard H. and Kathleen M. Meade of Quincy, MA, as well as 1 niece and 8 nephews and many friends whom he loved and enjoyed. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 4-8 pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Quincy, MA at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, 3121 Hotel Road, Auburn, ME 04210.
