Philip E. Ruddick

Ruddick, Philip E. “Phil”, of Norwell, MA and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on July 5, 2022. He was 81.

Phil was born in Dorchester and was a long-time resident of Norwell where he raised his wonderful family.

Beloved husband of 56 years to Mary (Porreca). Born on November 9, 1940, he was the son of the late Albert & Jane Ruddick. He is survived by his two siblings, Roger of West Palm Beach, FL and Peter of Surfside, FL.

Besides his wife, Phil leaves his beloved children, Scott Ruddick and his wife Megan and Lisa Thomas and her husband Ric of Hingham, MA. Phil adored his five grandchildren Hunter Ruddick, Jordan Ruddick, Samantha Ruddick, Calvin Thomas and Ava Thomas. He attended faithfully their baseball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, field hockey and golf matches and loved every minute of it.

Phil was a 1958 graduate of Randolph High School. He attended Northeastern University and graduated with a Business Administration Degree, class of 1963. He then served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

In 1966, Phil received a teaching fellowship from Northeastern University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business, class of 1968.

Phil had worked at Raytheon and joined Polaroid Corporation in the finance group when they were introducing their new SX-70 instant photography system. He became a division Vice-President, Finance and retired after 33 years.

Phil’s passion was golf and he enjoyed his trip to Scotland with his son Scott, where they played all the great courses, including The Old Course at St. Andrews. He also loved playing golf with his daughter Lisa at her club in Quechee, VT along with his grandkids.

Phil and his wonderful wife Mary enjoyed many years at their favorite winter escape Bonita Bay, in Bonita Springs, FL. There they made many new friends, playing golf together and enjoying the beautiful beaches. Mary was especially proud of getting her hole-in-one before Phil and took great pleasure in reminding their friends that she was first.

His other passion was the New England Patriots, where he attended their first football game at B.U. Field in Boston. For many years he enjoyed attending games with his children and grand kids.

After retirement, Phil joined the Harmon Club and made many new friends playing golf. Also, he enjoyed a new vocation as starter and ranger at the Weathervane Golf Club in South Weymouth.
