Peter And Pat Settimelli

J. Peter Settimelli, Jr., president of the former E. Settimelli and Sons Granite Manufacturers in Quincy, died May 21 of a stroke.

His wife, M. Patricia Settimelli, died on May 27 from complications of lymphoma.

The couple, from Weymouth, would have celebrated 60 years of marriage next month.

Peter was the son of the late Joseph P. and Edmea N. Settimelli of Quincy.  Born in Quincy, Peter attended Quincy High School and Thayer Academy.  He graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in business administration.  At a time when Quincy was still a city of thriving granite manufacturers, E. Settimelli and Sons made monuments for Mark Twain and Babe Ruth. Peter joined the firm as the third generation in the family business.  His sense of humor will be especially missed by his sister, Natalie S. Small, and brother-in-law, Dr. Parker A. Small, Jr., of Newton.

Pat was the daughter of the late Quincy Chief of Police John J. Avery and Mary Ellen Thompson of Quincy.  She graduated from the Woodward School for Girls in Quincy and earned a B.A. in social work from Regis College.  Beginning in 1973, Pat was a successful realtor who served as the real estate broker at Weymouthport condominiums in North Weymouth.  Over the years she made many friends with her real estate clients.  Pat was predeceased by her siblings, Gertrude Wilding, William Avery, and Walter Avery.

Peter and Pat were the parents of Ellen Settimelli and Paula Settimelli of Boston and the proud grandparents of Christopher Poillucci of Boston.  The couple enjoyed spending time on the Cape, traveling and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family in Whistler, British Columbia.  Peter and Pat leave many friends and relatives who, though saddened by the suddenness of their death, can perhaps find solace in knowing the brevity of their suffering.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home-South Weymouth at 809 Main Street, South Weymouth (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Quincy, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center-Philanthropy Department, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
