Peter N. Harrington

Harrington, Peter N. of Squantum, MA and Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2018.

Peter Harrington was born in Lawrence, MA to Jim and Ruth Harrington of Salisbury, MA on September 28, 1947.  He attended Cohasset High School before transferring to Monson Academy from where he graduated in 1965.  He attended the University of Miami and later graduated from Boston State with a BA in Communications.  Peter furthered his education through New England Life where he earned the equivalency of a Masters Degree in Communications and Management.  Peter worked as a reporter for the Old Boston Herald Traveler.  He worked at the State House in the Office of Economic Affairs under Mike Dukakis.  Peter spent many years as Senior Vice President of Communications for MetLife from where he enjoyed an early retirement.

Peter had a lifelong passion for boating, and in the summer could often be found playing on his boat at Marina Bay as he was a member of the Marina Bay Yacht Club.  He was an avid sailor and took his family on countless sailing adventures.  He enjoyed sailboat racing with his dear friend, John Berans.  Together they won races starting in Provincetown finishing in Tenants Harbor, Maine.  Peter had no fear of bad weather and loved to push the envelope when gale force winds blew.  He always said he had a storm jib, so he’d be fine!  Peter was known for his whip-smart intellect, dry wit, and his uncanny ability to fix anything with Duct Tape or WD40.  He was very loved and he will be missed.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Ruth Harrington, and his son, James Harrington of Marshfield. Peter is survived by his wife, Phuong Keefe, his daughters, Emily Harrington and Diana Scolponeti of Marshfield, and his sister Terry Harrington of Salisbury.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday, May 16 from 5 to 8 pm at Keohane Funeral Home at 785 Hancock Street in QUINCY.  Cremation will follow.
