Peter McElroy grew up in Queens, NY, died December 12, 2023 and services were held December 19, 2023.
He was a 1976 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1979 cum laude graduate of Boston College Law School. He was admitted to practice law in 1979 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the Federal Court in Boston.
From 1979 through 1985 Attorney McElroy was an Assistant District Attorney for Norfolk County where he handled trials in the District and Superior Courts, as well as appellate work. When he left the District Attorney’s Office headed by William Delahunt, Peter was trying high-profile and serious criminal trial matters.
He joined Cosgrove, Eisenberg and Kiley, P.C. in November of 1985 and became a partner in 1990. He appeared often before the Superior Court of the Commonwealth and tried many cases to positive verdicts. He practiced civil litigation, mostly involving personal injury and workers’ compensation matters.
In January of 2020, the law firm of CEK Quincy, P.C. was formed where he practiced with his longtime partner Lewis C. Eisenberg for the next three years until his death. Peter had the gift of persuasion in the courtroom and always was professional in his dealings with counsel and the court. Civility was his trademark. He befriended many of his clients and stayed in contact with them well after the conclusion of their legal matters. He was very proud of the relationships he developed over the years with his clients and colleagues.
Attorney McElroy had served on the Executive Committee of the Quincy and Norfolk Bar Associations and was a past President of the Quincy Bar Association. He served as a trial advisor with the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Program from 1982 – 2015 and was a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, the American Association for Justice, the Norfolk Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association. He was a Massachusetts Bar Foundation Fellow actively involved in the grant process for nonprofits in the Commonwealth. He was a past member of the House of Delegates of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
Peter was actively engaged in community activities and had been a member of several Boards of Trustees for nonprofit organizations.
Peter adored his family above all else and truly enjoyed the time spent in their company. He was an avid reader, loved travel, and sunrises. He was a master of music trivia and enjoyed all types of artists. Peter was a man of integrity, compassion, grace, and love.
Beloved husband of 42 years to Sandra (Kuziemski) McElroy of Westwood. Loving father of Caitlin McElroy and her husband Jonathan Hall of Oxford, UK, and Elizabeth McElroy of Brighton.
