Peter W. Flynn of Rockland passed away on December 23, 2024 after a lengthy illness, he was 87. Peter was born in Quincy to the late Philip J. and Constance Flynn on June 16, 1937. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Flynn of Boston. He was the beloved husband of over 50 years to the late Barbara A. (Reardon) Flynn.
Peter grew up in Jamaica Plain and learned through his father the importance of community and civil service. His father, Philip, was a former captain of the Boston Fire Department, Engine 17, Ladder 7. Soon after High School, Peter enlisted in the Army, where he proudly served our country as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Peter was a gifted artist and upon returning home worked in the commercial art industry. It was at this time that he met his true love, Barbara. They ultimately settled in Braintree where they lived for almost 40 years. Upon moving to Braintree, Peter left his job in the arts and joined the Quincy Police department. He tirelessly served the citizens of the City of Quincy for over 30 years. He took immense pride in his position with the department, his uniform was always ironed meticulously and his boots shined before every shift.
Peter was an avid history buff and could talk endlessly about virtually any topic. He was a member of the Boylston Schull-Verein in Walpole and attended many events throughout the years. He especially enjoyed Sommerfest and Oktoberfest where he could be seen in his Lederhosen and Tyrolean hat. Peter and Barbara both shared a very special love of cats; there was always at least 4 or 5 living in their home in Braintree, they could never turn away a cat in need of a home. Peter and Barbara also shared a love of nature, together they embarked on many adventures together throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Peter became a softy when he earned the name of Opa upon the birth of his grandchildren Nicholas and Alexa. He would always be looking for that updated photo for his wallet and cherished the times he got to spend with them, especially at the holidays or a birthday celebration.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Heather Visconte of Rockland. His grandchildren Nicholas and Alexa Visconte of Rockland. He is also survived by his nephew Brian Slattery of Seattle, Washington.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, February 18 from 9-12pm in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, followed by the funeral service at 12 PM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
