Braun, Peter E. of Hingham, age 74 died May 5, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by his loving family.
A Hingham resident for 28 years, Peter was born in New York and was raised in West Haven, CT where he was a graduate of Notre Dame HS. He was a 1962 graduate of Boston College and proudly celebrated his 50th class reunion three years ago.
Following his BC graduation, Peter served as an engineer and lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1965. Following his Naval service, he began his investment career with the Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford. He later worked for 15 years at Met Life and at State Street Global Advisors for ten years. He always claimed that the best job he had was working for Hansberger Global Investors. While with Hansberger, he worked in his Hingham Square office wearing his golf clothes. The position afforded him a great career and the opportunity to eat lunch every day with his wife Linda in her Hingham Square gift store, Treasures.
After retiring in 2007, he enjoyed life as a snowbird, spending six months at Indian River Club in Vero Beach, FL. Living on the 11th hole there was a dream come true for Peter. Those who knew him will always remember him as a true gentleman who always had a smile on his face. His friends will tell you that the only time he would swear was on the golf course at his own performance.
Peter was loved and cared for by his wife of 42 years, Linda, and was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Marie Braun of New York and Orlando, FL and his sister Patricia Braun, also of Orlando. He is also survived by two sons, Eric and his wife Michelle of Wrentham and Jason and his wife Kate of Norwood. The joy of his life for the past two years was his granddaughter Samantha Grace. An avid golfer, Peter was a member of the Cohasset Golf Club and the Indian River Golf Club in Vero Beach, FL. He was also a member of the Boston College Club.
Visiting hours will be Monday, May 11th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham.
