Peter Barr Brown, Jr.

Peter Barr Brown, Jr, 81, loving husband and father, passed away December 6, 2022, peacefully in the comfort of his wife Carlene.

Born on July 31, 1941, to Rose Kogoy and Peter B, Brown, Sr. Peter grew up attending Quincy Public Schools and in high school earned the nick name Brownie. In his years at Quincy High he served on Student Council, was a member of the Radio Club, and was as member of the Football Team.  According to his yearbook caption, Peter was known for being agreeable, finding the caption “You’re right!” in print.  Although Peter was born in Quincy and grew up there, most of his life was spent in Weymouth.  When he was off the field, he held a part time job as a grocer near his Aunt Mary’s. When he wasn’t playing football, saving his earnings to help out at home, you might find him tinkering on cars with one of his brothers or enjoying a hot dog or clam roll down Wollaston Beach. After graduating from Quincy High School, he enlisted in the USCGA, where he expanded his knowledge of electronics, which soon became a valuable hobby for many projects used in everyday life over the years.

Post military, he took fulltime residence in Weymouth and was accepted to Northeastern Universities Business Administration Program where he excelled. Following graduation from the program, he accepted a position with the Thomas J. Flatley Company. It was at the Flatley Company Peter found his niche. His professionalism, high expectations and mild temperament found him making his way up the corporate ladder earning the title of Director of Geriatric Care Facilities. Peter devoted over 30 years to the Flatley Family and to his position as a health care administrator. Simultaneously Peter was a member of the Division of Health Care Facility Licensure and Certification Department of Public Health for Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities. These were two very important facets in Peter’s life. Peter made it his personal obligation to ensure each facility was held to highest standard of care under his watch.

Finally, as Peter approached his mid-fifties he realized it was time to enjoy life with his wife Carlene and his daughter Lauren, from his first marriage. Peter and Carly enjoyed a trip or two to a couple tropical spots, but most enjoyed their trips up North to the home they built together in New Hampshire with their two fur-babies Precious and Pumpkin. Whether it was snowmobiling, antiquing, or simply enjoying laughs with friends, now called family. Those memories will remain special each of us who tagged along. Summers were equally as enchanting, swimming in the pool or cruising on the boat, traveling to various neighboring yacht clubs acquiring new friendships along the way. Enjoying endless sunsets, warm breezes of salt air on sun kissed skin, boating was where Peter was most at peace behind the helm. Sailing was his happy place. Whether it was marshmallow roast in the middle of the White Mountains or singing the Star-Spangled Banner viewing Esplanade Fireworks explode above Charles River, these short snippets are tiny glimpses of the innumerable memories, Peter created for Carlene and Lauren. Peter was a loving and devoted husband, father, and teacher. He always taught us to be resilient and patient but most important he demonstrated first-hand the true meaning of loyalty and did so unwaveringly.

Peter is the beloved husband of over 40 years to Carlene E. Brown of Weymouth, the loving father of Lauren Brown, 52, of South Boston and dear brother of Richard “Ricky” Driscoll of Weymouth. Peter is predeceased by 7 other siblings and is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews who Peter adored more than they will ever realize.

The family requests that donations be made in Peter’s name to the: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
