Peter B. Hargadon

Peter B. Hargadon of Weymouth, Hingham, and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, February 3, 2016.

Peter was born on Flag day, June 14, 1929, which was fitting because he was very patriotic.  Son of the late Peter J. and Nancy (Delaney) Hargadon.  Beloved husband of 45 years to the late Ellen (Howard) Hargadon.  Loving father of Gregory Hargadon and his wife Joanne of Marshfield and Joan Knisley and her husband Greg of FL.  Dear brother of Mary Hegarty of Milton and the late Walter and Ann Griffin.  Peter graduated from St. Margaret’s Grammar School as well as Boston English High School, Northeastern University and Emerson College.

Peter proudly served the U.S. Marines as a Corporal for his country during the Korean Conflict at the Chosin Reservoir.

For 45 years, Peter was employed by the Boston Globe as a pressman and was a life member of Local #3.  He also was a Past President of the Boston Globe Employee’s Credit Union and served on the Board of Directors of over 25 years.  In his later years, Peter was a pilot and flew with the Civil Air Patrol in Naples, Florida for 10 years. While in Naples, he was a member of the Elks Lodge #2010. 

He was a talented woodcarver that specialized in wood bird carvings and received many awards, especially “Best in Show” in various woodcarving shows. Peter was a very religious man who was as a communicant for many years at Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth. He was a great handyman who loved his home and had the best neighborhood on Veronica Lane.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral home service, Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 10:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peter’s memory to either the Beacon Hospice, 32 Resnick Road, Plymouth, MA 02360 or the Marine Corps League, 74 Carlisle St., Quincy, MA 02171.
