Paula F. (Powers) Valencia of Holbrook died peacefully at Pat Roche Hospice Home on September 13, 2022. She was 83 years old.
Paula was a long time resident of Holbrook where she raised her family. Her lifelong passion was painting and she was a talented and prolific artist who shared many of her pieces, from large framed landscapes, to special birthday cards. She worked with several mediums and excelled with watercolors. She loved to read and appreciated flowers and the beauty of nature. She would quote, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever” and she created many beautiful pieces.
She adored her grandchildren and they filled her heart. She enjoyed boogie boarding on Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA where she was usually the oldest person riding the waves. She loved summering at her log cabin on Watson Pond in Rome Corner, ME and camping at Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset, ME. She enjoyed hot black tea. She had a quick wit and will be missed.
She was pre-deceased by her mother Lillian (Lindemark) Borgal and Eugene Powers.
She was a loving mother to Eric Husgen and his wife Katie Husgen in Marblehead, MA, Christopher Husgen in Amesbury, MA and Laura Valencia in Pembroke, MA and her partner Walensky “Ski” Collin. She was grandmother to Markus and Adria of Pembroke, MA.
She was the sister of Anne (Borgal) Durgin in Duxbury, MA, James Borgal in FL, John Borgal in PA, Linda Browne and her husband Tom in Quincy, MA, Mark Borgal in Taunton, MA and Alan Borgal in Quincy, MA. She had many cousins, nieces and nephews she loved.
She was the close friend and neighbor of Jackie Gates of Holbrook, MA with whom she enjoyed many visits, excursions and trips to Stanney’s Restaurant.
Paula graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1957. She worked for John Hancock Life Insurance Company in several capacities, starting in public relations and eventually moving to a customer service role in property and casualty insurance. She finished her insurance career with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Along the way she made lifelong friends of over 50 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, September 19, 2022 for a memorial visitation from 10:30 – 12:30. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St. Quincy the service will begin at 12 noon, where family and friends will share memories of Paula.
