Paula A. Connors

Connors, Paula A. (Nowak) of Hingham, died at the age of 50 on October 8, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.

Raised in West Springfield, MA, Paula attended Bentley College, earning both a BS in Accounting and MS in Taxation. Paula married her high school sweetheart, Matt, with whom she recently celebrated their 34 year love affair including 26 years of marriage. She resided in Hingham, MA with her family for the last 23 years. Paula’s life was centered on her family as she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her children, especially, brought her great joy in every aspect of their lives. As a passionate supporter of Catholic education and community, she spearheaded several fundraisers, organized charity events, and was otherwise intimately involved in her children’s experiences at St. Paul School, Notre Dame Academy, BC High, and the University of Notre Dame. An example of her immense generosity was her humanitarian work with the Notre Dame Haiti Program in Leogane, Haiti.  Her work following the devastating earthquake was an experience that was especially satisfying.  Paula was a lifelong swimmer and relished walking daily with her much loved golden retriever, Riley. She is remembered most for her faith in God and enthusiasm for life. To her, life itself was a reason to celebrate.

Hello all,

Today is a sad day for the world as heaven received another angel.

For those who did not know, my mother had been battling acute myeloid leukemia since her diagnosis on September 19th. The news came to our whole family as a complete shock since our entire family has an immaculate health slate. However, we, especially my mother, were prepared to take on this battle head on and not give up. The following weeks were extremely difficult dealing with the fact that our mother was in the hospital, the last place a person like her should ever be. As expected, the news coming from Brigham and Women’s Hospital were overwhelmingly positive as she was feeling good and functioning relatively normal as she would everyday of her life. Her doctors even referred to her as a “rock star”; someone who was always upbeat and positive despite her unfortunate situation. She lived life one day at a time and she didn’t approach dealing with AML any different. All was good until Sunday night when she started to have some headaches. On Monday night, my father called and informed my sister, Sarah, and I should come home to see Mom as she had an infection and was not feeling well. We took an early flight out of Chicago to Boston, and went straight from Logan to the hospital. It was there that we were told that the unexpected infection had led to internal bleeding in her brain. Because of this, it was already decided, with the help of the greatest doctors in the world: we had to let her go. If someone were ask me “what is the worst feeling in the world?”, that would be it… The next few hours were the toughest that our family had to go through by far. We had our opportunities to say our goodbyes to the most amazing woman that we were so lucky to have for a mother.

At 2:45 PM, October 8, 2013, our mother was received by God in heaven. This short description of the battle and tragedy does not do my mother’s fight justice. She was the most beautiful and loving person I will ever know and if you were lucky enough to meet her, I am positive you would feel the same way.  God works in the most mysterious ways and it is important to know that no one (medical staff and family included) saw this coming. But, we will now move into a new chapter of our lives.

I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me and my family and thank those in advance who will. One thing that I would ask of anyone to do is call/text/go into the next room, and give your parents/guardians a big hug and/or tell them you love them. Never take them for granted.

If you would like to help my family get through these horrible times, I am providing the following times and locations of the services.  There will also be a reception lunch at South Shore Country Club following the mass.  Address: 274 South St. Hingham, MA

We would love to have anyone join the Connors/Nowak family this weekend, so please share this as ALL are welcome.

Once again, thank you all and God bless.
